Decorate a Pennant

You can cut pennant shapes from poster board

or buy pre-cut pennants online. Set these out

with crayons or markers and make some colorful

pennants to root for your team! Below are some

online options for buying pre-cut pennants:

  1. Canvas Pennants

  2. Paper Pennants

  3. Felt Pennants

Autograph and Decorate a Team Jersey

Purchase some white t-shirts, fabric pens and fabric puffy paints and iron on numbers at the local crafts store. Before the party, iron on numbers to the back of the t-shirts. The day of the party, set out a long table, and cover with a plastic table cloth. Lay out the t-shirts and let the kids decorate away! Have them use the fabric markers to “autograph” or sign each other’s t-shirts.

Here are some game ideas for your sports party to keep those kids running, busy, and having fun. (Note: many of these games can be tailored to just one sport too-- if, say you are having just a baseball party or football party)

Sports Charades

Here's a great warm up game to get kids excited and ready to go! Write a list of sports on a piece of paper, cut them out into strips, fold them and put them in a baseball hat. Let the kids pick one and act it out. Include some easy sports, but also hard ones to make it more challenging. Here's a list to get you going:

  1. Football

  2. Baseball

  3. Soccer

  4. Tennis

  5. Swimming

  6. Ice Skating

  7. Fencing

  8. Polo

  9. Badmitton

  10. Ping Pong/Table Tennis

  11. Speed Skating

  12. Synchronized Swimming

  13. Curling

  14. Shot Put

  15. Long Jump

Kids Sports Trivia Game

A trivia game can be made hard or easy depending on the kids and their sports prowess. For younger ones, you can stay clear of professional sports names and stats, and focus more on how a sport is played or sports terminology. At the end, if you'd like, hand out ribbons or a toy trophy for a prize. You could also have kids work in teams too. There are plenty of sports statistic and trivia sites on the web to gather questions. There are also sites made just for kids sports trivia. Here are some sample questions for an "easier" trivia game.

  1. 1.When someone scores it is called a touchdown. What sport is this?

  2. 2."Love, Deuce, Match..." what sport do these words come from?

  3. 3.What sport uses a puck?

  4. 4.What sport uses a birdie?

  5. 5.Does a quarterback play baseball or football?

ProSports Championship Games

Many sports have some type of special tournament during their season, for instance the NBA Slam Dunk Showdown, or the MLB Home Run Derby. Why not have a sampling of these types of contests at your party? Here is a list of ideas:

  1. A Dunk Contest - fanciest or most elaborate acting wins!

  2. Home Run Hitter Contest - perhaps you don't have a baseball diamond handy-- switch out the ball to be a wiffle ball, so it can't go as far, and make different markers on your lawn to indicate distance... Kids will love this just the same as going to a real baseball diamond.

  3. Football Field Goal Kicks - For younger kids, set up a mini-sized goal so it is possible for them to make the field goal. Also, kicking a smaller Nerf football can be a lot easier than a regulation ball.

  4. Hole in One Contest - A cup and a putter is all you need to simulate this golf contest.

  5. Penalty Kick Contest - Set up two cones and act as goalie. Now let each child try to shoot a soccer goal on you!

Sports Name Game

"And heeere comes Slugger Sloan up to bat..."

"Wild Guy Walker is heading down the field for the touchdown!!"

"There goes Silver Bullet Ben heading for the hoop... always a perfect shot!"

Everyone wants to know what their name will sound like when they are announced as the head into the stadium for their grand debut! Now, you can have your own personalized Sports Name with these printable Sports Name Charts, made especially for your sports party! I've created one for boys and one for girls too.

Boy All Star Sports Name Chart - Select to Print for your Sports Party

Girl All Star Sports Name Chart - Select to Print for your Sports Party

This game is a hit with kids. They love to know their crazy name. To go along with this name game, you can also provide t-shirts or jerseys for them to decorate.

So, what's your name?

Goodie bag ideas to come...

Here's some decorating ideas that would be perfect for this party:

  1. Vintage Tickets scattered around the party table, or if you're crafty, make a banner out of them. You can search online for images and ideas.

  2. Old Sports Memorabilia - How about an old brochure, or magazine? This will add to the space.

  3. Trophies - Vintage trophy displays are very in right now! Perhaps you don't have these stashed away, but how about trophies from when you were a child... or trophies from your kids' teams? They'll look perfect!

  4. Leather - What about some "pleather" as a table cloth, or use the leather rope string to tie up your goodie bags... reminiscent of an old football, these will look great!

  5. Old Sports Equipment - Get out that old wooden tennis racket, those rusty hockey skates, and old glove from when you were a kid. More great accents for this party!
